Our efforts have concluded in the first ever community solar project in the NY Hudson River valley (the second to be implemented in the entire state). We have proven both the method and process of incorporating ratepayers into a commercial solar project while using innovative techology

Community Shared Solar

The Governor announced a commitment to bring solar to 10GW and home/businesses by 2030. For the first time ever, commercial projects will be able to share the power they generate on their properties with surrounding community members through the Governor’s Shared Renewables program

New York State is undertaking significant change in how it generates, delivers energy,  to reduce emissions 85 % by 2050 below 1990 levels, including  70% renewable energy by 2030 .  The Clean Energy Standard commitment will require 100% of New York State’s electricity to be Zero emissions sources by 2040.

14 states plus DC have enacted policies to support community solar development. Many other low-income solar models are also being implemented across the country. But NY might be furthest along with easing the process so it is workable in their new “Value of DG” proceedings within the Public Service Commission’s REV proceedings.

NY’s law for Net Metered Community DG:

Allows up to 2MW-ac, ADG up to 1 MW-ac, Fuel Cell up to 1.5 MW-ac.

HostAccountType:

Non-residential,behind-the- meter host account under either a demand or non- demand classification
•MemberAccountType: Any utility customer

About 70 percent of U.S. residents are not great candidates for rooftop solar. They may live in an apartment, they may have a orientation not suitable, a very shaded roof, or they may have a very small electric bill. The best option for these people may be some kind of shared solar power system. Community Solar, or Solar Gardens, is a great solution for the rest of us.
